CanLII Tutorial Videos (Tip of the Week)

Posted on

libtutorialBy Alan Kilpatrick

Did you know that the Law Society of Saskatchewan Library has created a series of five CanLII tutorial videos?

The tutorials demonstrate how to search CanLII for case law and legislation in a variety of practical ways:

  • A Basic “How-To”
  • Searching for a Case with a Common Name
  • Noting Up a Case with CanLII
  • Searching for Case Law on a Point of Law
  • Searching for Legislation

Please let us know what you think about our videos.  Are tutorial videos an effective way to demonstrate online legal research?

If you have any questions about searching CanLII, ask a Law Society Librarian. Library staff provide legal research assistance to members in person, on the telephone, or by email.

Project Roundup

Posted on Updated on

Here’s a roundup of what we’ve been up to lately:

Limitations Manual – We have recently released the updated Saskatchewan Limitations Manual.  The Manual contains an alphabetical list of all Saskatchewan statutes with limitation periods and relevant case law annotations.

CanLII Tutorials – The Law Society Library has created a series of video tutorials to assist with searching CanLII. We have plans for more tutorial series on different research tools.  We would like to hear your comments and suggestions.

Upcoming legal research webinar – Our reference librarians are working on our next Continuing Professional Development webinar “Researching Saskatchewan Legislation Online“. This is a one hour webinar for one CPD credit.  Grab a brown bag lunch and join us at noon on April 15.

Builders’ Lien Manual – As mentioned before, we are working on an update to the Builders’ Lien Manual.  We are hoping that this will be available this spring/summer.
