Legal Sourcery’s 12 Recipes of Christmas – Day 1

Posted on Updated on

By Kelly Laycock

At this time of year, the Library staff enjoys having a little fun and sharing our antics with our readers. In the past, we’ve shared our Christmas reading lists and gift ideas for the lawyers in your family. We’ve even had a bit of fun with Scrabble and Holiday Mad Libs! This year, we invited all Law Society staff to participate by sharing with you our 12 favourite holiday recipes! Over the next twelve (business) days, prepare to be delighted with our sweet and savoury gift to you!

Happy Holidays!

On the first (business) day of Christmas, the Law Society staff gives to you:

Mexican Hot Chocolate (2 servings)

3 cups whole milk
1 tbsp cinnamon powder
6 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
3 tbsp demerara sugar
¾ tsp almond extract
Pinch of kosher salt
¼ tsp ground cayenne pepper

Garnish:
2 cinnamon sticks
Whipped cream
Pinch of cinnamon powder
Pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions:

Bring milk and cinnamon to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, whisking occasionally and making sure milk doesn’t boil, about 10 minutes. Whisk in chocolate, sugar, almond extract, salt, ground cayenne pepper, whisking frequently, until mixture is smooth and creamy and chocolate is melted, about 5 minutes. Pour hot chocolate into mugs, top with whipped cream and dust with cayenne pepper and cinnamon powder.
