Don’t Miss the Summer Issue of the Benchers’ Digest

This summer issue of the Benchers’ Digest is hot off the press, and we can’t wait to share it with you! This issue is dedicated to National Aboriginal Day (June 21), and we’ve had some wonderful contributions to get you thinking about what Truth and Reconciliation means in Saskatchewan, and across the country.

The cover is certainly a highlight of this issue, and we’d like to thank Saskatchewan artist Daniel Stephens for generously allowing us to use his art on our cover. To learn more about the artist of this beautiful piece, find Daniels’ biography on page 2.

The feature articles in this issue range in topic from a recap of the successful workshop hosted by the Law Society’s CPD Department (page 4), to the perspective of being an Indigenous voice at the Bencher table (page 7), all the way to a look at the work two Saskatchewan lawyers are doing to make reconciliation a reality in their community (page 10).

For book lovers, this issue puts a spotlight on the Saskatchewan Library Association’s One Book One Province campaign that promotes the memoir of a residential school survivor (page 16), along with a moving excerpt from the co-author’s reflections while on tour with the book. And don’t forget to look at this year’s list of Indigenous titles at the Saskatchewan Book Awards (page 19).

Finally, if you’re interested in regulation, read about the Law Society’s pilot project with the Law Societies of Alberta and Manitoba focussing on Law Firm Practice Management (page 14). Oh, and don’t forget to read this year’s SPCJA award-winning student essay by Travis D. Lovett.

This is a truly special issue, but don’t take our word for it. Download a copy and enjoy, or better yet, if you are a member of the Law Society, contact us and we will send you a print copy while supplies last!

Here’s to respecting diversity, not only June 21st but all year long.
